Bud Vase

The Mycelium Bud Vase by 10th Floor Studio embodies nature’s interconnected cycles of growth, decay and renewal by integrating living mycelium into its design. Designed and cultivated in-house by 10th Floor Studio, the vase features recyclable aluminium plates bound by hemp webbing that protect and anchor the uniquely textured and coloured Shiitake mycelium body. A removable glass tube is nestled within the mycelial form, serving as a perfect vessel for freshly cut blooms*.

10th Floor Studio is the collective works of Jerome Tavé and Kyle Lawson, who centre fungal-inspired narratives, material experimentations, and cross-species explorations to challenge the underlying philosophy of sterility and alienation native to our built environments. Their unexpected compositions explore futures where humanity finds greater integration with other lifeforms, drawing attention to ecological and social issues and inviting others into a realm of collaborative transformation.

This small batch of bud vases is crafted with in-house cultivated, home-compostable Shiitake mycelium, which gradually develops its unique brown colour over the course of its growth. The recyclable anodised aluminium structure supports the fungal body, guiding its shape while leaving space for the organism to grow independently. A wax finish protects the aluminium from decomposition by the living material. The result is a unique art piece—a collaboration between human craftsmanship and mycelial growth.
