Exploring Jacket

A technical smock to celebrate the unlimited possibilities of exploration and the limitlessness of life on this planet. The Exploring Jacket creates a unisex silhouette with voluminous pockets and a generous hood to shield the wearer during adventures into places unknown. Led by the belief that exploration should be sensitive, spirited and joyful, it can be worn on its own, coupled with the Exploring Musette or to finish a layered look during the cooler months.

Cut from silk and batch dyed with wildtype Streptomyces Coelicolor, each Exploring Jacket is one-of-a-kind. This pigment-producing microbe creates bespoke patterns ranging from blue to red in colour. The current batch is mainly pink.

S.coelicolor is a soil-dwelling bacteria aiding the decomposition of organic material. It disperses the petrichor scent we associate with rain falling on dry earth. It also synthesises a pigment which ranges from blue to red in colour. Fermented on textiles, each microbial cell produces toxin-free, water-efficient dyes that result in a truly bespoke, one-of-a-kind patterned textile.

The Exploring Jacket is made with 100% GOTS-certified organic silk, which, coupled with a microbial dye, makes it easily recyclable at the end of its use, though we hope it will outlast the wearer. The garment has been carefully crafted by local small-scale producers, ensuring transparency in our supply chain and a high standard and quality of finish.
