A fusion of industrial and living ecologies, the Boombox goes beyond utility. Its body features fruiting mycelial antennas with a spongy interior, grown within rigid metallic structures, attuned to the frequencies of sound waves across time and geography. Portable by design, it includes built-in Bluetooth functionality, capable of permeating any spatial grid, just as fungal networks spread and signal underground. By integrating living systems with engineered materials, the Boombox embodies lessons from mycelium that inspire us to reimagine human-made systems as regenerative by design.

Ganoderma Lucidum
30 x 37 x 17cm
Limited edition of 1, 2022
10th Floor Studio
The Boombox has been designed with in-house cultivated, home-compostable Shiitake mycelium, fed with wood chips and sawdust waste supplied from a local cabinet manufacturer.
Reishi Mycelium (Ganoderma Lucidum), Aluminium, Speaker Drivers. Includes “Sounds of Decomposition” audio track produced by Entropic (for 10th Floor Studio) for the custodian of Hyphal Fidelity Speakers – “As the shapes of objects around us evolve, how do we honour artefacts
from the past? Decomposition provides access to enriched nutrients, food for new ideas. The composition was created by decomposing hip hop classics beyond recognition.” Internal Amplifier: Nobsound NS-01G Pro Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0 (Supports aptX and aptX Low Latency) Required power Input: 12v DC, 1.6a (via barrel jack) Included Adapter (US): This device requires a 12v DC, 1.6a power adapter with a compatible barrel jack connector. Using an adapter with incorrect voltage or polarity can damage the device. The included power adapterd is designed for standard US electrical outlets. Use Outside the US: If you are using Boombox in regions outside the US (such as the EU or UK), you must obtain a separate power adapter that meets the following criteria:
Do not use the included US adapter with a simple plug converter in regions with different voltage standards (e.g., 220-240V); ensure the adapter itself is rated for the local voltage. The Reishi mycelium is dehydrated and no longer living. Keep Boombox in a dry indoor environment. Avoid exposure to moisture or high humidity. Dust gently using compressed air or a soft, dry brush. Do not use water, cleaning solutions, or abrasive materials. The mycelium surface is unique and can be delicate. |

10th Floor Studio is the collective works of Jerome Tavé and Kyle Lawson, who centre fungal-inspired narratives, material experimentations, and cross-species explorations to challenge the underlying philosophy of sterility and alienation native to our built environments. Their unexpected compositions explore futures where humanity finds greater integration with other lifeforms, drawing attention to ecological and social issues and inviting others into a realm of collaborative transformation.
This unique pair of speakers has been crafted using in-house cultivated, home-compostable Reishi mycelium, nourished by wood chips and sawdust waste from a local cabinet manufacturer. The recyclable aluminium structure supports the expansive fungal body, guiding its growth while allowing space for the organism to develop independently. The result is a one-of-a-kind sculpture—a product of human and mycelial collaboration. To enhance fungi’s regenerative potential, each speaker incorporates repairable drivers salvaged from discarded audio devices, reimagined within these living mycelium enclosures. |
